My working life began as a studio junior in an advertising agency in London’s Soho Square. Days were spent tracing alphabets, unstiffening paint brushes, being sent to get (variously) lunch, cigarettes, dry cleaning and supplies from the art shop - which once included my having to ask for a bottle of tartan ink and a set of vanishing points. They were also spent working with some amazing people who laid the foundations for my career, first as a typographer, then as a graphic designer and on to becoming the Head of School with a number of graphic design schools.
If I’ve enjoyed success, it’s always been because of the extraordinary people I’ve met and worked with…and it’s the connection with people which provides the inspiration for what I’m doing now…building workr.co…an online community, a meeting place, where people like us, people aged around 50 and over, can find the kind of work we’d like to do and where employers can find people like us…people who want to keep working and who enjoy productive, creative and fulfilling lives.
